PostHeaderIcon Cara: Friday Farrago-licious Pumpkins,recipe and product review!!

Lots to post about today...first my cheese pumpkins. The hokey kiddie pumpkin farms we have been going to the past few years have always had the regular orange run of the mill pumpkins. I always wanted different types and they either didn't have them or my kids were like "ew!!" This year we went to a real farm where they actually grow the pumpkins not just dump them and call it a "patch". And there they were... the cheese pumpkin I have been pining for! I needed specific sizes...something I probably should have explained to the woman next to me that was choosing some for herself. I was kinda laying across the ones I wanted, waiting for hubby to get me the cart to carry them in.

 
ANYWAY. I have been wanting them because I have been wanting to make a pumpkin topiary I once saw on a blog I peruse centsationalgirl.com (always gotta give props). So although I was coffee clotching with the girls yesterday morning... I was thinking in the back of my head "I need to get home and paint my cheese pumpkins!" (don't you hate when you hear that in your head? yeah...me too!) So this is my variation on the idea: (how to)


                Yes my poor Haunted House lost it's center stage spot...them's the breaks.
As long as it doesn't rot, (I did spray the under parts with a clear spray) away my favorite new decoration will be hanging around until Thanksgiving. 

One more pumpkin thought (oh I have more but I will spare you...)
This is a recipe for Pumpkin Squares. I originally made it for the Diva's Kindergarten class (yes the one that is now a Senior) for a Thanksgiving party. I knew the most of the kids would not like pumpkin pie so I made these.

4 eggs beaten
1 15-oz can pumpkin
1 1/3 cup sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
½ tsp nutmeg
3 oz pkg cream cheese softened
¼ cup butter
¾ tsp vanilla
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
Oven 350
Beat together eggs, pumpkin, sugar and oil until well blended. Add the flour
baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix until smooth then
spread in an ungreased 10x15 pan
 (or as close to that size or for fluffier cake use 13x9 pan).
Bake for 25-35 minutes or until done. Allow to cool.
For the frosting, beat together the cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar butter
and vanilla beat until smooth. Spread frosting over cake then cut into squares.

Ok one more thing before I go...one of my book club buddies gave me a product to review:

It's a pumice scouring stick. It's made for porcelain and tile cleaning. My friend RE Lady gave it to a client to help her remove rust stains in a toilet before she tried to sell her house. I've had this stain in my 1/2 bathroom sink since we redid the bathroom about 3 years ago.
It just appeared right after we had the sink installed. It was big production getting the sink in due to it's shape or whatever so there was NO WAY I was taking it out. I had decided to just live with it. Not happily, might I add 'cause it made me nuts every time I washed my hands in that sink...which was everyday. I had tried everything I could think of to get rid of it. I know it wasn't there when it was installed...figured it was a water stain or a defect in the porcelain. Well, I wet the pumice stick like the the directions said...rubbed it on the stain and....

GONE!!!!!!

And no one's happier than me....
