PostHeaderIcon Cara: Don't raise your hand unless you plan on lending it....

PTA grumbling again. Although now that I think about it I haven't been talking much about PTA lately. Probably because after talking about taking a step back I actually have. It's been a much needed break and to be honest I am getting kinda used to sitting back a little. Having said that...the same SH@* still makes me nuts.

A new face at a meeting had a lot to say. Not that new people are not welcomed. Just the opposite. Bring it on new people. I am more than willing to step aside if you want to roll up your sleeves. I will be happy to be a worker bee on YOUR committee. You can make all the plans and deal with all the pains in the ass! YOU can be in charge of all the "ups"...set-up, clean up, type up flyers and count up money....be my guest.

Just don't come to a meeting pointing fingers about what you think is wrong with the school. Don't come with ridiculous expectations when you obviosly have NO IDEA how things work. That would probably be due to the fact that you have never been to any meeting that I know of, nor have you ever volunteered to help in any way from what I can tell. And since we have children the same age...unless you just moved here, I would guess that you have been lying low for the past four years.

You want to get involved? You have questions? Ask. But be respectful, tactful...nice. And as far as I am concerned be ready with that hand of yours that shot up in the air with "comments" to then use it to roll up your sleeve, with me and the other PTA "snobs" and get the job done. Otherwise there's a seat waaaaay in the back with your name on it. You can sit right there...on your hand.

Jenn's two cents: Well said - so glad I no longer have time for the PTA meetings - I prefer daytime worker bee.

PostHeaderIcon Cara: Aunt Flo

(Warning this post is not for the faint at heart...men to be precise...lol)

She's visiting this week. I really don't recall inviting her honestly. I tried moving and leaving no forwarding address but she found me here anyway. I really would like her to go away. I am done with her using her "room" and would like to turn it into...I don't know an office or a media room or something. At one time I welcomed her. I was even REALLY happy to see her on several occasions. But now it's gotten old. Real old.

She turns me into the most horrendous "hostess". I am a gal that enjoys company, but not one that cramps me up and makes my eyeballs bug out of my head. I usually enjoy cooking and serving food to my guests. Well, there's food but I am going to eat all of it. And if it's got chocolate in it you had better step aside if you have grown fond of that hand you are about to grab it with.

I love to sit and chat it up with my guests. But when she is here...the tone of a person's voice makes me want to run screaming into the night. Really people, can you just say what you need to say and keep your attitude to yourself? I can't understand why when Flo is here everyone around me suddenly is completely annoying and stupid? It can't me be I am the hostess with the mostess.

I get a high from preparing for guests to come. I am happy, full of energy. When this beeatch comes over, I am a slug. I am tired, I have a headache and I am not about to start cutting flowers from the yard to stick in a vase in her guestroom, she can bite me. Full of energy? Forget it. I'm empty. As a matter of fact I think I may need a transfusion over the weekend.

So really, Aunt Flo can you just pack your bags and be on your way? Go visit some 13 year old who is dying for you to come visit. (idiot) You are really starting to make me nuts. First it's brain farts. Then I think crazy things. Like the time last week in the waiting room at the doctor's office. I was chatting with a lady sitting next to me. She told me she was getting a hysterectomy. I thought (out loud) "lucky!" I was embarrassed. She laughed, and said "I know". Is that sick or what? See, I am not the only one who wants to you take a walk.

It's been real, but you are overstaying your welcome. It's time to pack it up and take your pads with wings and your tampons with plastic applicators that make me choke (that's a whole other post and yes I know which end it goes in thanks) and don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

Jenn's two cents: OMG Cara on a roll...thanks for the laugh this morning - I will stay out of your way for the next 5 - 7 days - let me know when flo is gone and it's safe to come visit!
Cara's three cents: Cara on roll? Sounds like a deli order...better be careful with that sandwich it may contain thorns...hee hee

PostHeaderIcon Cara: See now but I DO love summer...

I do love the hot weather. I would take a scorcher over a bone chilling day anytime. But I am what my husband called yesterday a “cranky ass”. I think it mostly has to do with the fact that it has been rainy and cloudy for the last I don’t even know how many days. Every time I clean up my backyard after the rain, I sweep, wipe, weed, scrub only to have it rain again and mess up everything. For the first time my basement got water because the pump mysteriously stopped working, so all the stupid carpet tiles have to be brought upstairs and outside to dry off. That would be fine if the SUN would only come out long enough to dry them off. Grr.

By now, I would have had a day or two to sneak off with a few mom friends to have breakfast at the beach during the last days of school. They are indulgent quiet, relaxing time outs before we have to take all the sand covered chicken cutlets with us whenever we hit the shore. By now, I would have had all my flowers planted and my gardens weeded and mulched. Thanks to the rain the weeds are doing marvelous but can’t say the same yet for my annuals. By now, I would have been walking every morning before school lets out and my schedule changes. But with this weather I don’t feel like getting dressed much less walk.

My husband the eternal optimist (although I did refer to him as Little Orphan Annie yesterday...maybe I am a cranky ass?) said not to worry the sun will come out tomorrow. Yeah ok. My weather man says scattered thunderstorms. Well if you don’t mind can you scatter them somewhere else ‘cause I am done. Like stick a fork in me I’m done. Seriously.

P.S. RIP Farrah and Michael. It's so surreal to me that these people have passed, especially in the same week. They were icons of my generation. I totally had Farrah hair and most of MJ's albums from the early days. Who didn't try to moondance? My daughter even sang "Thriller" this year with her choir, almost 30 years after it came out. They were part of my life even though I never knew them and it makes me sad.

PostHeaderIcon Cara: Grumblings...

I "heart" Housework (...not)

Does it ever end? I mean c’mon. How many times must I sweep under the kitchen table? Twice a day is not enough? How much hair can fall off a dog? Enough for a large man’s toupee, apparently.

I clean and I turn around it’s messed up. I have two teenagers whose rooms look most days like a landfill. I draw the line when a teenage boy’s room smells like feet…it’s time to be cleaned. And when a teenage daughter starts stealing my underwear (thought she preferred “butt floss” to my bloomers???) because she hasn’t done any of her laundry, it’s time to clean.

A little boy that lives here should have been named Hansel because you can follow a trail of gold fish crackers and Wrestling figures and find his exact location.

I had a cleaning lady for awhile. But when you have to clean before the cleaning lady comes at some point it becomes silly. I read something once that said “cleaning the house when your children are growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing.” Ain’t that the truth?

But in the midst of my complaining I remember a family close by that will bury their son today. I am sure they would give anything if he messed up his toys. So I suppose during my grumbling I will be grateful for the mess. But part of me still wishes someone else would do the laundry this week.
