Jenn: Thoughts for Thursday

There is a lot swimming around in my head this morning - from motherhood to Christmas lights to the fate of America- so I am going to keep it light and airy today and save the heavier thoughts for another day.
Today I had planned on taking a ride out to Pottery Barn Outlet - I am finally getting around to decorating Ballerina's room. We are going for a chic parisian look - pink and pale green with a few posters of paris and a clean sophisticated look. She has two antique brass beds we bought last summer, I will be doing some painting and I am looking for a chandelier and bedside table for her. The weather changed my thoughts though - it is too cold to be outside so I will put the trip to the outlets off until next week and focus on things at home instead.
I have 33 items listed on ebay right now. Ebay can be very addictive - not buying, but selling - my kids used to joke that if it wasn't nailed down, watch out, Mom might put it on ebay. I stopped ebaying when we moved -but now that we are settled, it's time to clear some stuff out. It is a great way to make some cash with minimal effort. Most of the stuff I sell is my kids clothes and toys. There is a huge overseas market for kids designer clothes - even if they aren't new - and I get some good money. I know a lot of people who just "can't be bothered" to sell something if they are only going to get 5 or 10 bucks for it - sometimes things surprise me and go for much more, but if you are selling 33 things for 5 or 10 bucks, that's a couple of hundred bucks - and every little bit helps. I had some dolls I had bought my girls when they were little with the thought that some day they will have they picture perfect room with a row of collectible dolls - but that day never came and so the dolls are on the auction block too. Whatever money I make, I am saving for a kitchen island. I think that is a good goal.
I was driving to pick my boy up from a friends last night and low and behold - there was a house with it's Christmas lights still on. I decided not to judge - maybe it makes them happy. I know a lot of you still have the lights on the house but don't turn them on - the weather has made it difficult to get out there and take them off. The thing I thought about with the lights though was the electric bill. This was an entire house outlined in white. Pretty impressive- but I think that one December bill is always enough of a shock to make me want to shut my lights off December 26th! Whatever makes you happy - and if it's Christmas lights in March - I am okay with it. (Cara is having a stroke right about now).
So those are my light thoughts for the day. My heaviest thought today is for our soldiers all over the world but especially for the servicemen killed and wounded in Germany today. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and with all the soldiers who sacrifice so much for our freedom. God Bless America.
Cara: Stroke? How about I was sitting in the family room looked way up at the top shelf of the book shelf and saw the "We Believe in Santa Claus" sign sitting there!!! Ack!!!!!! Did you put it there just to send me into orbit???

It's so funny that you mentioned this because i walk my dog late at night right past the house you are referring to and i've often thought the same thing about the time of year and the electric bill... And it's also funny that you ended your comments with thoughts of our men and women soldiers because I used to be one of those people quick to comment on others for dragging the holiday long past its time until i realized that many families are still waiting to celebrate with their loved ones, still have up their lights and EVEN THEIR TREES! So... There you go! :D.
I always try to give the benefit of doubt about people with Christmas deco's still up. They might be going thru an illness or something like that and cant (or dont care) aboout taking them down.
