Ok so I am a day late and a dollar short on both "Happy's." First I just have to wish my baby a happy ninth birthday - every 6 years it falls on memorial day - the last time she turned three and we told her the whole town was coming together and having a parade just for her birthday. At nine she is a little bit more savvy and didn't believe me - but when she was three it was magic. She had a birthday button and a birthday crown and everyone was wishing her a happy birthday and she was none the wiser.
What I love most about my newly minted nine-year-old is that she is still a kid. She pretends to be a "big" like her siblings - wants to wear the same type clothes and cool shoes and whatever but when no one is looking, she is in her room playing dolls. She still loves her barbies and now Monster High but at the same time she wants a VB backpack like the big kids. I hope she enjoys a few more years with her barbies.
Next, Happy Memorial Day. We had a wonderful backyard BBQ here with lots of friends and family (75 hot dogs and 50 burgers). My brother-in-law was missing - because he is not off on memorial day even though it is a celebration for him and his fellow troops. He was busy keeping our country safe and for that I thank him and all the men and women who serve and have served our country. Yesterday was a feel good day for most of us. Not so much for the families missing their sons and daughters, husbands and wives, Moms and Dads who are busy keeping America safe. So think about our soldiers not just on memorial day but everyday. Thank them when you see them and remember everything our service men and woman and their families sacrifice for us so we can enjoy a wonderful three day weekend with family and friends.
Now its back to business for a couple of more weeks then the kids are off and summer really begins. Can't wait.
