Jenn: Cursive?

Cara and I have talked a few times recently about our kids learning or not learning cursive or script. Lu did a few weeks of it in third grade and I am hoping they will touch on it again this year. She can write slowly in script if she needs to but it's not quick and easy like it should be.
This week there was an article in the New York Post about the death of Cursive. In many school districts, it is no longer on the curriculum. The thought is that kids have no need for script. Any application we fill out says Please print or more often job applications are done on a computer. The emphasis needs to be on keyboarding. Kids need to know how to type.
My fifteen & thirteen year olds print all the notes they take in class. When they go to college, they will take notes on a lap top. They have no need for script. Which makes me mad. Script is something we shouldn't let die.
I use script every day. Notes to teachers, grocery lists, notes to self...I also use my keyboard daily. There is room for both is this world.
