Jenn: Parent Trap

Edit Post
I have failed my child. I have not been a good enough parent and I am going to take full responsibility. At some point we have to admit our mistakes, correct them and move on. So that is what I am going to do. Maybe you can learn from my mistakes.
I stopped brushing Lu's teeth this year. I decided, at 7, she was big enough to brush her own teeth, BIG MISTAKE people. We went to the dentist yesterday, and I am embarrassed to admit, that she has 6 cavaties. She will have to have her four back baby molars pulled becasue that's where they all are and apparently she doesn't brush her back teeth. Our new dentist, who I really liked, gave me that tsk tsk mom thing - because apparently you are supposed to help your child brush their teeth until they are 9-years-old - who knew? I have never seen or discussed with other mom's at what age do we stop helping our children brush. It's one of those things like if you can dress yourself, you can brush your teeth, right? I am also going to have to work on flossing. If I can get her to stand still enough to let me do it...if she will let me do it. So I learned a life lesson yesterday - and today I am ready to do battle with a toothbrush!

Wow, I didn't know you had to help kids until they were 9. Like you, I assumed once they can do it, that's it.
Hope all your friends heed your dentist's great advice!!! Get out the floss!
