PostHeaderIcon Jenn: See ya!

On Friday hubbie and I drove ballerina to camp. It was a LONG drive - 450 miles and we didn't even leave the state. Our 8 hour trip ended up taking 11. A flipped tractor trailer and a stuck oversized vehicle caused us to sit for 2 hours with no where to go.

We drove up two days early so we would have time to get familiar with the camp. This was both a good and bad idea. We spent Saturday walking around the campus, getting the lay of the land, finding the book store and ice-cream shop. This made ballerina both comfortable and anxious at the same time. She was ready for camp to start. The night before check-in she started to get nervous and anxious and wanted to drive home. We convinced her that wasn't an option. Sunday morning we went to campus to check her in. It was a typical moving in day. Dad and and brothers carrying in refrigerators and fans. Moms making beds and unpacking suitcases.

As we were unpacking, her roommate showed up. They were a perfect match and felt comfortable with each other right away. All of a sudden she went from don't leave me to like okay bye bye you can go now...her confidence shot way up and she was ready to be on her own.

The great thing about modern technology is that we can text and call whenever we feel like it. We haven been sending each other pictures and info the last two days. I am hoping this will keep the homesickness away. Ballerina was telling me about a girl across the hall who is crying and throwing up because she is homesick. I asked her if she was homesick and her answer? "Don't take this the wrong way but uh No". That means I have done my job. I am raising a independent, happy girl and that's all anyone can ask for. Do I miss my ballerina? You bet - but I am trying to get used to the peace and quiet.
